According to the <a href="https://findingaids.library.tamu.edu/index.php/pumilia-joseph-f?sf_culture=en">Cushing Memorial Library & Archives</a>, he "received his B.A. in English from the University of Houston in 1967, and graduated from the UH School of Journalism in 1970" and "wrote a number of stories and poems under the name M. M. Moamrath, which were deliberate lampoons of H. P. Lovecraft and Robert Howard."
