Frederick J. Mayer was an artist, author, editor, journalist, poet, and a reviewer. His works that have appeared in numerous magazines, including: Eldritch Tales, Grue, and Lovecraft's Disciples. Mayer's books of poetry such as "Where Does The Real Go When Its Gone?" and "A Familiar In A Strange Land" have been used as texts in various university courses. Founder and Head Writer for the award-winning radio drama series "Arkham Theater." In conjuctuion with "Fantasy Faire", now-defunct California convention Mayer founded International Clark Ashton Smith Award (CLASH). The International Calrk Ashton Smith Awards (78-85) were given both for general achievement and individual work. Its laureats included Jonathan Bacon, Ray Bradbury, Marion Zimmer Bradley, Joseph Payne Brennan, George Clayton Johnson, Barry King, Ursula K. Le Guin, Fritz Leiber, Frederick Mayer, H. Warner Munn, Donald Sydney -Frayer and Roy Squires.
