Swain was a wood-engraver, in business for himself from 1844, who retained "the whole of the engraving work for Punch" magazine from that time to 1900. ... "Swain was one of the most prolific wood-engravers of the nineteenth century. His own work is not always signed, and the signature 'Swain sc' must be taken to include the engraving of assistants working for his firm." ... His son Joseph Blomeley Swain continued the printing and engraving business. --Wikipedia
