He became an English newspaper reporter and translator. He was also attached to the AFP Tokyo bureau and served as business manager for The Japan Times. With Toru Yano and others, he co-edited Japan's first science fiction magazine, "星雲" (Seiun), and served as vice president of the Japan Science Novel Association.
