Because of her expertise on Africa, Willis was commissioned to write the introduction to the Fodor's Guide to Kenya, Tanzania & the Seychelles. Based in Nairobi, Kenya for several years, she profiled the work of Richard Leakey in The Hominid Gang, and more recently wrote about patterns in nature in The Sand Dolloar & the Slide Rule, published by Addison Wesley. She has also published articles in Natural History, Outside, and Audubon magazines.
