Originally published in 1850 in two volumes.
Another collection of Poe's writings, The Literati, published later in 1850 had no mention of this set. Some copies of that printing may have been bound by the publisher as Vol. III. It was eventually incorporated expanding the set to 3 volumes.
A fourth volume was added in 1856 bringing this set to its final configuration.
The titles of each individual volume are:
- Volume I: Tales
- Volume II: Poems and Miscellanies
- Volume III: The Literati, &c.
- Volume IV: Arthur Gordon Pym, &c.
- The full text and images of this edition are available at Google Books:Vol. I and Vol. II.
