  • Edited by Howard. Transcription of the 1911 Foreword (viewed at HathiTrust): FOREWORD   Some of the purely geographical matter in the Swedish original of the "Further Adventures of Nils" has been eliminated from the English edition.   The author has rendered valuable assistance in cutting certain chapters and abridging others. Also, with the author's approval, cuts have been made where the descriptive matter was merely of local interest.   But the story itself is intact. V. S. H.
  • The 1953 Dent Children's Classics edition (UK only) is "slightly abridged" from the 1911 version.
  • VSH also translated book 1, published in 1907 as The Wonderful Adventures of Nils. That title has also been used for some one-volume editions that contain both volumes. --English Wikipedia (above), which covers the entire work by Lagerlöf, no particular translation.

  • 1st ed. {{tr|Velma Swanston Howard}} This is the first English-language publication of the second part of the story of Nils. The brief Foreword by VSH explains that some chapters are cut and others abridged, by VSH with Lagerlöf, "But the story itself is intact."
  • HathiTrust Digital Library provides full view of two copies including one with original front cover): -- title page
