According to Locus1, the book is ''based on the first 19 chapters of Voices Across the Sea (Harper 1958) and several other pieces, some previously uncollected.'' Apparently, it contains also one chapter from the 1974 revised edition of Voice Across the Sea and even one short story (''I Remember Babylon'').
• Month of publication from Locus1.
• Primary verification and correction of the contents: Locus1 somewhat misleadingly lists the five parts of the book as single pieces. These are ''Wiring the Abyss'' (pp. 17-106), ''Voice Across the Sea'' (pp. 107-150), ''A Brief Prehistory of Comsats'' (pp. 151-188), ''Starry Messengers'' (pp. 189-244) and ''Let There Be Light!'' (pp. 245-262). The Epilogue and the two papers as appendices in the end are separate.
• Foreword signed "Colombo, Sri Lanka / 20 April 1991".
• Full page photograph of Clark by Charles Adams on the back of the dustjacket.
