Laid in is a copy of a 1931 Finlay drawing, previously unpublished, titled "The Dreams of the Witch House" and with the caption, "Her bent back, long nose, and shrivelled chin were unmistakable, and her shapeless brown garments were like those he remembered. The expression on her face was one of hideous malevolence and exultation." There are Stephen Fabian illuminated capital letters in the text: p. 5, "A"; p. 7, "M"; p. 53, "W"; and p. 63, "A".
