British Library and WorldCat records of the 1914 Holden & Hardingham edition, the latter as "Holden & Hardingham's sixpenny novels", report "8o" (octavo) and 22cm respectively; both as 191 pages, which implies 1000 words per page if unabridged. Neither comments on the text or layout.

The front covers (3 each) are radically different and those from U California look certainly original. Contents (numbered pages 8, 5, 5) list chapters I-XIII, XIV-XXVI, XXVII-XL. Text spans pp. 9-288, 7-301, 7-[299]. Volume III alone contains back material, publisher advertisements p[301-04]. This publication is not listed.
• Publication date from notice in The Athenaeum #3372 (Saturday 1892-06-11) p774: Messrs. "announce that on Monday next they will publish ...". The Scotsman Monday 1892-06-13 lists it among "new books that came out last week".
