Divided into three parts:
• Part I: 1958-64 (the years with the author, takes roughly 80 pages)
• Part II: 1964-82 (roughly 100 pages)
• Part III: 1928-58 (roughly 50 pages)
- It is not clear on which page 'The Search for Philip K. Dick' starts; it depends if the Prologue is accounted as part of it or not (if not, these memories start on p. 21.).
- First printing as per number line.
- Editor: Jill Roberts (series editor: Jacob Weisman).
- There are iv pages of photo plates inserted after p. 142; each page shows two photos by Anne R. Dick taken in the years 1959, 1960, 1961 & 1963.
- The excerpts from Confessions of a Crap Artist are inserted at various points in Part I to illustrate where Philip K. Dick mirrored or deviated from the family life with Anne R. Dick and her children, and to show where he inserted various people into the novel (there are a few short excerpts from other novels as well).
- The appendix consists of an index (pp. 270-279), an 'About the Author' on p. [280] and 'What Others Say About "The Search for Philip K. Dick"' on p. [281]f.
