Children's picture book edition of the full text by Nesbit
--inferred from review of companion The Book of Beasts
{{OCLC|972851283}} states "illustrated by Elroy-Hughes" and is the only source for the 1st ed. as of 2017-02-26; entered here without the unlikely hyphen
One of 4, evidently, children's picture book editions of Nesbit stories issued September 1987 by Beehive Books, and 1988 in the US by Dial.
Publishers Weekly, evidently in review of the two April 1988 US issues (quoted by Amazon US at ISBN 0803704747, quote):
• "The look of these books is decidedly old-fashioned, from the paste-on illustration on the cloth cover [all 4 books evidently] to the style of the illustrations. The stories are as imaginative and witty as any reader would expect of E. Nesbit, but the artists have really just decorated her work, neither complementing it nor underlining the sensibility of the text. The art seems to be aimed at readers of Nesbit's day, but the books do not work as period pieces."
• The review continues with particular negative remarks on the work of illustrators Carole Gray and Elroy Hughes.

Cover image from Amazon US 2017-02-26 as "Hardcover – 1 Sep 1987" and "Macdonald Beehive"
Cover artist must be interior illustrator as this is a new children's picture book --entered as "Elroy Hughes" same as the 1st US ed. per LC and WorldCat.
Verifier should check for the hyphen.
