10 stories and 1 essay by MacManus
The introductory essay "Our Tales" closes "Donegal, Old Lammas Day, 1900" (that is, 1900-08-01).
All 10 stories were published in US newspapers during summer 1900, perhaps offered to all McClure Syndicate newspapers.
The Washington Post published all 10 on page 27, Sundays 1900-07-16 to -09-15, with illustrations by {{a|Gustave Verbeek}} signed "Verbeek".
The illustrations are some but not all of those in the 1900 collection (3rd printing, 1901, viewed at HathiTrust).
The Atlanta Constitution published at least 4 of them (no others found during 1900 by automated search "seumas macmanus"); those four all on matching Sundays, with illustrations by Verbeek.
Between those two newspapers there are some differences in story titles and in illustrations selected.
