This novel is an expansion of a segment of God Bless You, Mr. Rosewater, by Kurt Vonnegut, Jr, which is an excerpt from a fictional novel, Venus on the Half-Shell, written by the character Kilgore Trout. The segment as written by Vonnegut is incorporated into the novel so that it became an excerpt of an actual novel of the same title, published under the pseudonym Kilgore Trout.
