  • See also the short fiction record.
  • At least in the 1st ed. and Project Gutenberg Ebook #55040, the adapted text of Alice in Wonderland, 14 chapters spanning pp. 1-56, is preceded by two and followed by two other writings by Carroll. (quote headings without some capitals, punctuation, and layout) -- A Nursery Darling -- Preface (Addressed to Any Mother) [closing "Eastertide, 1889."] -- p[58-60] An Easter Greeting to Every Child Who Loves "Alice" -- p[61] Christmas Greetings (from a Fairy to Child) The last two (in the database, 1876 and 1884) are commonly included in Alice publications. The first are unique to Nursery Alice apparently; thus "A Nursery Darling" replaces the dedicatory poem "All in the golden afternoon ...".
  • There were at least two 1889 issues of the 1st ed.   People's Edition, price 2s --title page (very informative)   "4to, boards, price 3s." --publisher listing, p[62] of the same (viewed as HathiTrust images of 1981 facsimile)

  • First publication of the work 1st ed. perhaps simultaneous in multiple formats
  • This record represents one format primarily, which may have been preceded by the ordinary one (far below). Title page top banner:   People's Edition   Price Two Shillings
  • See also the chapbook, interior art, and short fiction records. All four records rely heavily on the People's Edition viewed as HathiTrust e-copy of facsimile (Tokyo: Holt Suppan, 1981) and as Project Gutenberg Ebook #55040 in html format. Both contain colour images of the full-colour front and back covers and interior illustrations.
  • Title page (at HathiTrust) -- "the cover designed and coloured by E. Gertrude Thomson" Front cover and back cover (non-white rabbit) are both illustrated; spine view not available. HathiTrust also shows front and back images of the slipcase, original to the facsimile ed. of the book apparently, which show the same EGT illustrations as the book.
  • Pages 1 to 56 display the short story per se and its interior illustrations, in 14 chapters (different in number and title from the original chapters). Other contents by Carroll (quote headings without some capitals, punctuation, and layout): -- A Nursery Darling -- Preface (Addressed to Any Mother) -- p[58-60], An Easter Greeting to Every Child Who Loves "Alice" -- p[61], Christmas Greetings (from a Fairy to Child) See the chapbook title for more information.
  • -- p[62-63], "Works by Lewis Carroll" The publisher lists this title only in another format, with identical full title and credits presumably from its title page. -- "4to, boards, price 3s." That may be considered the ordinary edition.
