- 3 tales from the Punjab region of India(2 Pathan & 1 Pushto) are from Major Campbell.
- A tale from the (Ma)shona tribe was collected by Mr. Cripps in Uganda.
- 3 tales are from the aboriginals of North America & originally published in the Journal of the Anthropological Institute.
- The Magic Book was translated by Mrs. Skavgaard-Pedersen from the Danish of E.T. Kristensen.
- All other translations (mainly French, Spanish & German) were by Mrs.(Andrew) Lang.
- 3 uncredited tales are Scottish stories from John Francis Campbell's collections.
