First published in 1979, this is primarily a Washington D.C. political/spy thriller set in the year 2000, with a few elements of science fiction: a manned expedition to Ganymede; a nuclear-powered satellite orbits the Moon; and the writer predicts (and misses) at the future interoperability of computer networks and satellite communications. Horace Hubbard, one of the two protagonists, may be a first cousin to Paul Christopher, the central figure in McCarry's series of non-SF espionage novels. "May be," because in this book the CIA was shuttered in the early 80's, replaced by a much more secretive intelligence organization, while in the main series of Christopher books, which runs into the 80's, the CIA shows no signs of being closed down.
