This fixup novel was published, in slightly different form, in The Magazine of Fantasy and Science Fiction, in 5 installments.

The source of the chapter mapping is References (Hothouse). The duplication of Chapter 6 is as stated in the essay and is presumably erroneous.
The US variant, The Long Afternoon of Earth, is slightly abridged from the UK edition - the US didn't get a full Hothouse till 1976. The major cuts from Hothouse are as follows:

• First third of Chapter 14
• Last third of Chapter 18
• Four paragraphs in Chapter 25

Additionally, there are many other minor cuts and textual variations.
The source of the cuts is Introduction (Hothouse).
As usual with Aldiss, the "W." may or may not appear on Cover/Spine/Copyright Page, etc, so please stick with title page author when checking.

None of these editions have missing or extra chapters. Chapters 20-27 in this Faber edition have been mis-numbered.
• Cover artwork is signed "Mellor" on bottom edge
• Price "16s net" and "Jacket design by Oscar Mellor" on front flap of jacket.
