Collected and Edited, with a Sketch of the Author by William Winter First Edition with matching 1881 dates on the title page and the copyright page and with no later printings noted. Bound in a medium Brown cloth with gold stamping to the spine "Life, Poems and Stories of Fitz-James O'Brien". Other cloth colors including Dark Blue, Red (or Rose), were used also. The author's posthumously published book, collecting material first published in periodicals in the late 1850s and early 1860s. 994 copies of the 1530 printed (Jan. 26, 1881) were bound (Feb 3 - March 15, 1881) and the remaining sheets were junked three years (May 27, 1884) after publication. Stories were republished in various forms over the years. Original price was $2.00 per Publisher's Weekly - February 26, 1881, pages 219-220.
