• The first 7 stories were published in the sequence collected here (as by E. Nesbit, most with longer titles) under main title "The Seven Dragons" in The Strand Magazine 17:3-18:3, March to September 1899. All were illustrated by H. R. Millar, a regular for the magazine.
• The Book of Dragons (1901) contained those 7 plus "Kind Little Edmund" (with variant titles), and The Complete Book of Dragons (1972) contained those 8 plus "The Last of the Dragons" (with variant sequence and titles), all 9 being in this collection.
• "The Last of the Dragons" was not published during Nesbit's lifetime. Otherwise these are her first 10 stories in The Strand (apparently from indexes of bound volumes, skimmed as e-copies at HathiTrust Digital Library), nine from 1899 illus. by Millar and "The Cockatoucan" March 1900 with illustrations by Claude A. Shepperson.
