According to the publisher, Ramble House, this novel was written in 1965. According to a 1965 Harry Stephen Keeler letter quoted in "The Keeler Keyhole Collection" p. 86, the novel "evolved" out of Tertza Rinaldo Keeler's (Harry Stephen Keeler's wife) short story "Finale" originally written for "Realistic Stories Magazine". It was scheduled to appear in Spain in 1967, but remained unpublished until 2003.
