Notes
Script for a stage play comprising a prologue and five acts.
The script tells essentially the same story as the novel. Originally substantial sections were typeset portions of the novel, cut and pasted (literally) into the otherwise hand-written script. The original copy was submitted to the Lord Chamberlain's office for "approval and licensing", as was required until 1968 for all scripts to be performed.
The play was performed only once, 18 May 1997, eight days before the book was released. By submitting the script, however, Stoker secured copyright to the characters and plot for the purposes of stage performance.
For more information see the source of this account, Bram Stoker's stage adaptation of Dracula at the British Library (above).
Limited edition of 250 signed (by the editor) and numbered copies; there were also 26 lettered copies.
Edited and annotated by Sylvia Starshine.
A review claims this is the first publication of the play version of Dracula and differs from the book. The play was registered and performed prior to the book publication.
