The initial publication announcement for this book indicated that it would include both "Holy Place" and "Birthday", both translated by Suzanne Jill Levine; it was to appear in August 1988. In the end, though, the published edition only contained "Holy Place". Therefore, there is as yet no English translation of "Birthday" ("Cumpleaños").
- The non-genre novella "Holy Place" ("Zona sagrada") has been omitted from the index here.
- The ISBN was issued for Farrar, Straus & Giroux's plan to publish these two novellas together. The book was supposed to appear in August 1988. In the end, though, the edition that appeared only contained "Holy Place". The English translation of "Cumpleaños" ("Birthday") has never been published.
