The collection Insect Literature was originally published by Hokuseidō Press in 1921. It contained ten essays by Lafcadio Hearn and facing-page Japanese translations. The essays, but not the translations, have been reprinted along with the original preface by the translator Masanobu Ōtani. Ten further essays selected by Anne-Sylvie Homassel are included.
