Notes
According to McCaffrey's "Author's Note" preceding the text of the 1982 Del Rey/Ballantine edition of Crystal Singer, it "is based on four stories originally published in Roger Elwood's Continuum series. ''Crystal Singer'' is considerably expanded from these stories, thanks to the technical assistance of Ron Massey, Langshot Stables, Surrey.". The 4 stories in question are:
- "Prelude to a Crystal Song" in Continuum #1, 1974
- "Killashandra — Crystal Singer" in Continuum #2, 1974
- "Milekey Mountain" in Continuum #3, 1974
- "Killashandra — Coda and Finale" in Continuum #4, 1975
However, {{A|Phil Stephensen-Payne}}'s research for the 1984 McCaffrey bibliography ''Anne McCaffrey, Dragonlady and More'' (with {{A|Gordon Benson, Jr.}}) revealed that the novel ''The Crystal Singer'' was based on only 2 of the 4 stories, "Prelude to a Crystal Song" and "Milekey Mountain". The second novel in the series, ''Killashandra'' (1985), was based on "Killashandra — Crystal Singer". The last
Continuum piece, "Killashandra — Coda and Finale", which originally completed the story of Killashandra Ree, was not reused in the novel series, which took the plot in a different direction.
