Page & Co., first publisher of the novel, and 1909 by the Valencia Theatre Co., probably as the first version of the adaptation, "tried out" in January • The preceding title page is undated. • The following page states in part (no heading): "Prince Hagen was tried out at the Valencia Theatre, San Francisco, in January, 1909. In the light of the experience thus gained, it has been entirely re-written. It is now privately printed, to be sent out to managers, critics and others who may be interested. ..."
