No statement of printing. Most secondary sources state that 1200 copies were printed, with 700 bound by FPCI and 500 "Greenberg Variant". Chalker/Owings indicate an additional 300 copies of the first printing were bound as part of the From Death to the Stars omnibus. They further state that the last 100 copies bound c. 1972 had at least one signature reprinted to replace signatures that were damaged. The first primary verified copy does have one signature that is lighter in color than the others. It matches none of the bindings detailed by Currey (below) and has a flyleaf inscription dated 1975 and is likely one of those later bindings. The first state jacket Earl Terry Kemp's The Anthem Series has red titling whereas the second state is done with yellow and can be seen here. Kemp does not indicate which binding was issued with which jacket. Currey mentions three bindings: (A) Black cloth with spine lettered in Gold and "F.P.C.I." at the base of the spine. (B) Boards with the Gnome Press imprint at the base of the spine. These would presumably be the Greenberg variants. (C) Light green wrappers lettered in black. The first primary verified copy is bound in beige cloth with black lettering and no imprint on the spine.
