According to an author's note in the first edition "this book is a novel in two parts and two separate novels, at once." The first part titled "Demons" was published separately by Cemetery Dance Publications in 2000 (listed on the ISFDB as a chapbook). The second part is titled "Undercurrent" and is "dependent on Book One". Each part's chapters are numbered separately.
