The North American Review (New York) published the first 8 essays June to December 1901, including simultaneous publication of essays IV-VIII July to November as "Anticipations: An Experiment in Prophecy—II". Its June 1901 issue opens with a version (abridged or otherwise revised?) of essays I-III as "Anticipations: An Experiment in Prophecy—I", with internal headings "I—Locomotion in the Twentieth Century" and so on, pp. 801-26 (view at HathiTrust Digital Library). Its December 1901 issue does not contain the concluding essay IX, nor is that listed in the index to the first 1902 volume. HathiTrust holds full view of the relevant Reviews volumes Fortnightly v75-76 and North American v172-74.

First book publication: the text was previously serialized in the Fortnightly Review. Data from SFE3, there wrongly cited as Anticipations of the Reaction of Mechanical and Human Progress upon Human Life and Thought
