This must not be understood as a grand ball, or a magnificent gala or "rout," or even as a concert. There is an illustration at the beginning of each part, not from the original French edition. Artist is unknown. The table of contents for Part 1 starts on page 3 (unnumbered, but second page is numbered 4) followed by the novel on page 5. The last page is 255. The second part follows after a blank page with a table of contents, the second page of which is numbered 4. There is a blank page, then a full page illustration, followed by the second part of the novel on an unnumbered page 5.
