This collection was near-simultaneously published by Sphere Books in the UK (May 1974) and by Nelson Doubleday/SFBC in the US (June 1974). The two collections contained the same stories. The Sphere edition credited {{A|Angus Wells}} as the editor and ordered the stories chronologically. The SFBC edition used the same order except it moved "Gonna Roll the Bones" to the beginning of the collection. {{A|Poul Anderson}}'s introduction is new to the US editions. Fritz Leiber's "Introduction" in the Sphere edition is mostly identical to his "Afterword" in the SFBC edition with some modifications. The SFBC edition does not acknowledge a previous edition.
