'With 8 coloured plates by Frank Papé and 83 drawings by H. R. Millar' stated on title page. All stories published originally in The Strand Magazine between 1895-1897. 'The Magician and His Pupil' is mistakenly listed as by A. Godin. It is actually a Polish tale by {{A|A. J. Glinski}} that Ms. Godin translated in the collection Polnische Volksmärchen (1878). Of the uncredited tales 'The Three Valleys' is German & 'The Prince & the Lions' is an old Persian tale. Sources currently unknown.
