16 stories Contents are consistent with interpretation as an omnibus of two US collections, 1899 "Where Angels Fear to Tread" and Other Tales of the Sea and 1898 Spun-Yarn Sea Stories. Although the latter is the older, and must be considered the title subcollection here, the 1900 UK edition contains the 11 "Where Angels" stories in original sequence, followed by the 5 Spun-Yarn stories in original sequence. The 1900 edition does not name either US collection. Merely its last printed page states (p[351] viewed at HathiTrust): Some of the stories in this volume have already appeared in America, in a volume with the name title, published by Messrs. Harper and Brothers.
