• The copyright page contains the complete Library of Congress Cataloging in Publication Data including the year of publication (1993), the ISBN (0-312-85411-0), and the {{LCCN|93-26550}}.
• "Edited by David G. Hartwell" (over) "Design by Lynn Newmark" stated on the copyright page.

• Page 221 features a blank space 2cm high by full page width. Page 223 features 2 such spaces. It is clear from the text of the story ("The Shadow Knows") that something should be printed in all 3 spaces.
• According to Locus1, there are two first edition states. The first printing omits small drawings that accompany "The Shadow Knows." [Copy verified by MHHutchins contains no drawings.]
• This first state dustjacket has no white asterisk adjacent to the barcode box on the rear cover. (Apparently, the second state dustjacket has such a feature.)
• Cover and spines of both the dustjacket and the book give the title as Bears Discover Fire.
