This collection should not be confused with the NESFA press collection The Rediscovery of Man: The Complete Short Science Fiction of Cordwainer Smith which is quite different in content

• First edition (not stated). The "Nelson Doubleday" imprint indicates an original publication exclusive to book club members.
• Selection of the Science Fiction Book Club for July 1975.
• No printed price or stated date of publication. Both given here are taken from the SFBC announcement flyer.
• "1180" printed at the bottom on the back flap of the dustjacket.
• First printing has gutter code "24R" [verified on page 337], indicates a printing in June 1975.
• Known reprint code: "H17" (April 1977) on page 341.
• "Jacket Painting by JANICE C. TATE" printed on the back flap of the dustjacket. The artwork is also signed
• Cover and title page credit: "Edited, with Introduction and Notes, by J. J. Pierce".
• First printing has green boards with yellow lettering
• In this publication, the two stories "The Crime and the Glory of Commander Suzdal" and "Golden the Ship Was—Oh! Oh! Oh!" are printed in transposed order compared with the early Ballantine pb printings
• The Timeline in all these books lists "Suzdal" before "Golden". Both stories take place c13,000 A.D.
