Invaders from Earth

Silverberg's 1958 novella "We, the Marauders" and 1958 novel Invaders From Earth are nearly the same story, with mostly the same text, but Invaders From Earth is about 10,000 words longer and the cuts create a different resolution to the main character's personal story. Silverberg writes (in a writer's blog) "I wrote [Invaders From Earth] for Don Wollheim at Ace and then offered it to Bob Lowndes, whose pulp magazine SCIENCE FICTION QUARTERLY could handle long stories. The title "We, the Marauders" on the magazine version was Lowndes', though I liked it. I don't recall whether he or I did the cutting, or how the changes in plot came about. The Ace version was the original one, though."
