- The first book in the series to be copyrighted by "George R. R. Martin and the Wild Card Trust." Previous volumes were copyrighted by Martin or his corporation , The Fevre River Packet Company.
- The second book in the series that bears a closer resemblance to novel than anthology. The chapters are numbered and there is no individual credits, except for a "Closing Credits" (page 385) which shows who created each of the novel's characters.
- After the last numbered page, there is a 16-page section (unpaginated) entitled "The Strange History of the Wild Cards," which contains summaries of the five previous volumes of the series.
