"'The Scientist's Revolt' was first published in Fantastic Adventures for July 1939. Copyright 1939 by Ziff-Davis Publishing Company. No record of copyright renewal. 'Beware!' was first published in The Burroughs Bulletin for July 1974 by The Burroughs Bibliophiles. "Beware!" was copyright 1939 by Edgar Rice Burroughs Inc. No record of copyright renewal."
The bibliographic note states:
""Beware!" was written August 9-31, 1922. The story was shopped around under the pen-name of John Tyler McCulloch to see if a Burroughs' story would sell even if his name was not attached to it. It did not sell. Ray Palmer, of Amazing Stories, contacted Edgar Rice Burroughs Inc. to see if they had any stories available for sale. "Beware!" was among those sold to Palmer. With the permission of ERB Inc and ERB, the story was rewritten by Palmer (or one of his staff) and was published in Fantastic Adventures pulp magazine in July 1939. The original story was not published until July 1974 in The Burroughs Bulletin. We are presenting both versions of the story."
