Notes
From the Foreword (paraphrasing) and the timeline:
- Collection of linked previously published short stories, some revised for this edition, with a new story "Eve" as bridging material. Also includes a new timeline, as well as adding references to the previous-published Xeelee novels in the form of footnotes.
- The timeline indicates that the chronological sequence of the previously published novels is: 1. Timelike Infinity, 2. Raft, 3. Flux, 4. Ring. The 'Vacuum Diagrams' stories are interspersed.
- In the Foreword, the author describes the book as "... a novel based on the short stories... " but it is a collection. The new short story, "Eve" consists of a Prologue, an Epilogue, and bridging material between all the stories. The bridges vary in length from a single sentence to a couple of pages.
- In the Foreword, the author describes the Timeline as "new" but it is revised and expanded from the Timeline that previously appeared in his novel Ring.
