According to the author's note in the TOR edition, the 1984 Bluejay edition was revised: "In some places material has been added; in others it's been trimmed; one or two characterizations have been made truer to my present perceptions of them..." all this to make the book more compatible with the sequel The Door into Shadow (then newly published) and with the then unpublished drafts of the other two sequels.
