Who's Who in Science Fiction

Reference to this work in the review column of the December 1957 issue of "The Magazine of Fantasy and Science Fiction". It is described as a pending publication "of some 80,000 words containing a complete checklist of all stories in the s.f. mags from 1953 through 1957 with autobiographies". Also referenced in Science Fiction Times, First July 1957: "Now in preparation by Jack Lewis and George Hopkins of 4116 Charlotte St., Kansas City 10, Mo., is a volume scheduled for late fall or early winter publication, the probable title of which will be "Who's Who In S-F". It will contain a complete index to the s-f magazines and books for the period 1953 to 1957, an autobiography, or a biography, of the s-f authors active during that period, a foreword by Forrest J Ackerman, a chapter on the early days of s-f, scheduled to appear under the by-line of Sam Moskowitz, a chapter on fandom by John Murdock, plus other items. The publishers are interested in hearing from any author not yet contacted, who had material published during the period mentioned above, with the object of inclusion in the book. Advance orders, but no cash, are being accepted. The book will be hardcover, 70-to 80,000 words. About a hundred autobiographies have been collected so far, and the mag and book index is completed. No price has as yet been set." There is also an ad on the last page of Science-Fiction Times, First January 1958: "JUST A REMINDER to send us your order for the "WHO'S WHO IN SCIENCE FICTION", and be assured of getting your copy of the valuable first edition at pre-publication price. It is a book that will be kept and consulted for years to come. The first and only one of its kind in science fiction. Pre-publication price $4.50. After publication $5.00.
