Notes
Back flap of 1980 Hutchinson edition (seen on Archive.org) says: "James Hale has been a publisher's editor for most of his life. He doesn't have a hobby. He is unmarried. His interests are varied but nebulous. He cannot drive. His bicycle is broken. He lives in a small London cottage with plants blocking the light from the windows, whence he peers anxiously at the world. He prefers fiction to real life." This humorous (?) bio does not appear in the 1981 Franklin Watts edition (seen on Google Books), which just says: "James Hale has also edited The Thirteenth Ghost Book and The Midnight Ghost Book."
