Victor Gollancz (1893–1967) founded Victor Gollancz Ltd in 1927. After his death the publishing company was owned by his daughter to 1989, by Houghton Mifflin to 1992, by Cassell & Co. independently to 1996. Hachette acquired Cassell and Orion in 1996 and "in December 1998 the merged Orion/Cassell group turned Gollancz into its science fiction/fantasy imprint." --Wikipedia
