Gene Roddenberry's Andromeda

Andromeda (formally Gene Roddenberry's Andromeda) is a space opera television series based on unused concepts by Gene Roddenberry. It was developed by Robert Hewitt Wolfe and produced by Roddenberry's widow, Majel Barrett. The show stars Kevin Sorbo as Captain Dylan Hunt, a High Guard officer of the Systems Commonwealth, a vast interstellar government that collapsed after a rebellion led by the Nietzcheans and the Magog. The series premiered on October 2, 2000, and concluded on May 13, 2005. The show was filmed in Vancouver, Canada, and produced by Andromeda Productions in association with Tribune Entertainment, Fireworks Entertainment, and MBR Productions. In Canada, it aired on Global Television Network and ran in first-run syndication in the United States. Andromeda was one of several posthumous projects based on Roddenberry's ideas, along with the series Earth: Final Conflict and the comic book Gene Roddenberry's Lost Universe. The character name Dylan Hunt had previously appeared in Roddenberry's earlier TV pilots Genesis II (1973) and Planet Earth (1974), which shared similar themes of rebuilding civilization after collapse. A third attempt, the 1975 TV movie Strange New World, aired on ABC and starred John Saxon as Captain Anthony Vico. Saxon had previously starred as Hunt in Planet Earth. Although Roddenberry was not credited, Strange New World followed a similar premise, with character names and concepts modified to avoid legal conflicts.
