The American Magazine

US monthly magazine, illustrated June 1906 to August 1956

John Sanborn Phillips (1861–1949), co-founder of McClure's Magazine, and several McClure's writers left that magazine in 1906 and created The American Magazine. It was published by the Phillips Publishing Company to 1911 and edited by Phillips to 1915. It "departed somewhat from the [McClure's] muckraking style and focused on human interest stories, social issues and fiction." After 1915 "it expanded its market considerably by concentrating on female readership." --Wikipedia
