"Initially a news magazine, it began publishing fiction in November 1937 and became a slick on American lines after World War II. By the time of its demise it had absorbed such similar magazines as The Passing Show, News Review, The Illustrated (1958) and Everybody's Weekly (1959). After World War II it featured a significant amount of fiction by authors such as Agatha Christie, Nicholas Monsarrat, N.J. Crisp, Gerald Kersh, J.B. Priestley." (philsp.com)
