My Kinsman, Major Molineux

Robin goes to Boston seeking a job that his kinsman Major Molineux, a British colonial official, has promised him. But the visit turns nightmarish when he can't find Major Molineux and runs afoul of the hostility of the colonists against officials.

First published (as by "the author of Sights from a Steeple") in The Token, 1832.
Marked as one of the notable fantastic stories by Hawthorne in Rein A. Zondergeld's Lexikon der phantastischen Literatur from 1983.
