Vera has a money-making idea: she will compile and sell an almanac of prophecies for the coming year, tailored for her local community. Most of the predictions are sufficiently general to be accepted as "confirmed." But she's gone out on a limb by hinting that Jocelyn Vanner will have a hunting mishap. Her friend Clovis obliges her by arranging for that to seemingly come true.
