A man camping out is awakened by a fearsomely strange-looking man, red-faced, black-whiskered, and carrying a three-pronged fishing spear, and dragged to a nearby house, where he is required to resolve a dispute in arithmetic.
A burlesque ghost story, apparently but not actually supernatural. First published in the New York Tribune, 17 July 1892.
