- This work is not by Poe. The Raven edition cites this as one of several DOUBTFUL POEMS. "The poem is signed "A. M. Ide," a name John H. Ingram thought, erroneously, was a Poe pseudonym. Ingram included this, and three other poems by Ide, in his 1888 edition of Poe's poems. Abijah M. Ide is now known to have been a young man who lived in South Attleboro, Massachusetts, and who corresponded with Poe as early as 1843."
- First published uncredited in the October 25, 1945 Broadway Journal.
